Hernandez underwent season-ending shoulder surgery Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
The utility infielder underwent a procedure to stabilize his left (non-throwing) shoulder Friday, which brings his season to a premature end. Abraham reports that Hernandez is expected to be ready for the start of the 2018 campaign, however. Hernandez's absence coupled with Brock Holt being sidelined hurts Boston's infield depth, but the club is expected to get Pablo Sandoval (knee) back in the near future.
