“New Girl” star Max Greenfield is set to join the Paramount and New Regency drama “The Big Short,” starring Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and Brad Pitt.
Melissa Leo and Marisa Tomei are also on board, with Adam McKay directing the pic.
Based on Michael Lewis’ bestselling nonfiction book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine,” the film tells the true story of the genius contrarian investors who, recognizing just how insane the housing bubble had become, figured out how to “short” the market prior to the financial collapse of 2008.
Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are producing via their Plan B Entertainment banner.
Besides joining “The Big Short,” Greenfield is also developing “The Beginning of the Adventure,” which he plans to write, direct and star in. That project is currently set up at Red Crown Productions.
Greenfield broke out with his role of Schmidt on “New Girl,” which was recently renewed for a fifth season. He most recently appeared on the bigscreen opposite Sally Field in “Hello, My Name Is Doris,” which premiered at SXSW.
