Chris O’Dowd is in negotiations to co-star with Julianne Moore in Nicole Holofcener’s “Can You Ever Forgive Me” for Fox Searchlight.

Holofcener is also writing the pic which based on the 2008 memoir by Lee Israel.

Israel was a respected biographer who fell on hard times and turned to counterfeiting the letters of deceased writers and celebrities in order to pay her rent. When the forgeries started to raise suspicion, she turned to stealing the actual letters from library archives and sold them through an ex-con fence she met in a bar, while the FBI was closing in on the scam.

Anne Carey will produce the pic.

O’Dowd had a busy 2014, with “Cavalry,” “Cuban Fury” and “St. Vincent” all bowing in the past year. Though O’Dowd is best known for his comedic chops, his next pic, “The Program,” gives him an opportunity to show his dramatic range as he plays the reporter who was the first to ask questions about Lance Armstrong’s possible doping scandal.

He also has Tim Burton’s “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars” bowing next year. He is repped by WME and 3 Arts.
