Rose Kaufman, co-writer of “The Wanderers” and “Henry & June” with her director-husband Philip, died Dec. 7 in San Francisco after a long battle with cancer. She was 70.
The 1990 film “Henry & June,” based on Anais Nin’s memoir about her relationship with Henry Miller and his wife June, was the first movie to earn an NC-17 rating and was produced by their son, Peter.”The Wanderers” was a 1979 coming-of-age story based on a Richard Price novel and directed by her husband, who has also helmed “The Unbearable Lightness of Being,” “The Right Stuff” and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”
The WGA and Acad member was previously a script supervisor on her husband’s first film, “Goldstein,” in which she had a cameo.
She is survived by Philip, her husband of 51 years; her son Peter and his wife, Christine Pelosi, daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi; and two grandchildren.
