Milestone reached on Thanksgiving Day

The Mouse House has become the first film distrib to pass the $3 billion mark in annual worldwide box office.

The milestone was officially achieved Thanksgiving Day, but the studio didn’t trumpet its feat until it circulated a press release Wednesday.

Disney has rung up $3.08 billion in global B.O., including $1.48 billion in domestic grosses through Buena Vista Pictures Distribution and $1.6 billion in foreign coin through Buena Vista Intl.

Combined tally surpasses a previous record of $2.86 billion in global grosses set by Sony in 2002, officials said.

“By any measure, 2003 has been an extraordinary year for Disney’s motion picture division,” Disney studio chairman Dick Cook said.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating our best year ever at the box office,” domestic distribution prexy Chuck Viane added.

“This is the biggest-grossing year in BVI history and the ninth year in a row that BVI has grossed more than $1 billion,” international distribution prexy Mark Zoradi said.
