Marking the five-year anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that hit eastern Japan, Earshot
Jazz, Nonsequitur and Volunteers for Project Fukushima! In North America are proud to announce a pair
of events featuring Tokyo musician Otomo Yoshihide. In addition to a solo performance – his first in
Seattle in over ten years – he will be in attendance for a screening and discussion of the film “Project

1月21日ブリティッシュコロンビア大学（UBC）Department of Asian Studies の主催にて上映会開催が決まりました。福島第一原発の隣村で生まれ育った原発作業員を追った短編ドキュメンタリー “The Nuclear Village” との2本立て上映です。詳細はScreening ScheduleのページおよびUBCのウェブサイトをご参照ください。
UBC’s Department of Asian Studies will be hosting a screening event on January 21st. There will be 2 films, “Project Fukushima!” and “The Nuclear Village”, a short film that portraits Fukushima-natives who work at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant. It is not so well-known that a group of artists held a festival in Fukushima in August, 2011 - five months after the earth quake and tsunami. Their organization and hosting of the festival was documented and released as a documentary film. The festival goals and the effort of the organizers and volunteers for the festival were so inspiring that a group of volunteers in Seattle WA and Vancouver BC are bringing the film to North America for the first time.
２０１１年の東北大震災の後５ヵ月後に芸術家・音楽家の団体によって、福島市内でアートフェスティバルが行われたことは、海外ではほとんど知られてない。このフェスティバルは準備段階からドキュメンタリー映画監督によって撮影され、２０１２年に日本では日本各地でボランティアによって上映された。その後も世界各地では上映会が行われている。今回、このフェスティバルの趣旨、関わっている芸術家・音楽家の考えに深く感動し賛同したシアトルとカナダ・バンクーバーに在住のボランティアチーム「プロジェクトFukushima! 北米ボランティア」が、初めて北米での上映会を行う。

Director Hikaru Fujii traced the development of the “Fukushima!” festival
in his documentary film. The festival and film take place in the context of
a recently disaster-stricken region with unresolved issues including uncertainties about radiation levels. An examination of the role art and aesthetics might be able to play amid such a situation poses questions for the viewer to consider as well.

Screenings of the documentary “Project Fukushima!” in Seattle WA & Vancouver BC are in the works, to be presented by “Volunteers for Project Fukushima! in North America,” our small group of volunteers inspired by the project.
