R. Kelly is arrested on porn charges...again

R. Kelly, who’s only recently re-emerged into public life and performance after a scandal-plagued year, was arrested on 12 counts of possession of child pornography on Wednesday, CNN reports. He was arrested without incident at Miami’s Wyndham Grand Bay Hotel, the sheriff’s department in Florida’s Polk County told EW.com. Kelly had rented a house there, and that’s where he was taken into custody and held on $12,000 bond.

Wednesday’s arrest stems from 12 digitally-stored photos that Polk County sheriffs say they found last summer at the singer’s rented house in Davenport, in Polk County, at the time of his arrest and extradition to Chicago on child-porn charges relating to the infamous videotape that reportedly depicts Kelly engaging in sex acts with an underage girl. The 12 pictures depict a nude underage girl, sheriffs say, and three of them show her having sex with Kelly. While the photos were discovered last June, the state of Florida issued a warrant for Kelly’s arrest only last week because, as Polk County Sheriff’s spokesman Col. Grady Judd tells EW.com, ”there was an extensive investigation to conduct. We were also working with the Chicago police department.” Kelly’s current visit to Florida marked the first time police could execute last week’s warrant. Police from Polk County and Miami-Dade County, where the hotel is located, participated in the arrest.

Kelly, who has been traveling and performing lately to promote his upcoming album, ”The Chocolate Factory,” faces a third-degree felony charge and possible five-year sentence on each count, Col. Judd says, meaning he could spend 60 years behind bars in Florida. His trial in Chicago is still pending. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges and has denied being the man on the videotape.
