A reply to Gauden, John. Eikon basilike. Authorship of the Eiḱon basiliḱe was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 126-33) it was written by John Gauden, who probably included some authentic writings of the King
"Burned by proclamation, Aug. 13, 1660, and by order of the convocation of University of Oxford, in July 1683"--McAlpin Collection Catalogue
The first, eighth and ninth words of the title are transliterated from Greek characters

Bliss" -- here conjectured to be the autograph of William Henry Bliss, 1835-1911 -- is inscribed on the front pastedown. The word "Halwey's[?]" is inscribed at the head of the title page. The perforation stamp of the Library is present on the title page
