UNITED SET FOR STRIKER SALE

VIKING STAVANGER are trying to fix a fee with Manchester United for the services of striker Erik Nevland.

The Norwegian has grown frustrated with the lack of first team opportunities at Old Trafford and he is ready to turn his back on his dream move by returning home.

After only one goal, in the Worthington Cup against Bury, Nevland is keen to kickstart his career by returning to the club where he scored five goals in 14 appearances before his transfer to England.

Nevland arrived with a flurry of goals for United`s reserves but, after a loan spell at IFK Gothenborg, the likelihood of him leaving has increased considerably.

Viking director Bjarne Berntsen confirmed: "We are hoping that he will sign in a few days` time. There have been positive developments and we have a telephone meeting planned with his agent Rune Hauge."

The transfer fee needs to be settled with The Red Devils unlikely to be able to recoup the £300,000 they paid for the striker. Viking are looking for a replacement for Rikhardur Dadason and Nevland fits the bill.
