Lord Alli steps down as Asos chairman

Asos, the online fashion retailer, has appointed former Amazon director Brian McBride to replace Lord Waheed Alli as chairman.

Lord Alli is stepping down after 12 years with the company.

Mr McBride will take over the role on November 1.

He has a background in technology and retailing, including almost six years as Managing Director of Amazon in the UK and prior to that he held senior positions at IBM, Dell and T-Mobile.

Nick Robertson, chief executive of Asos, said: "Waheed has been with us from the very beginning and played a major role in the ASOS story. I would like to express my gratitude, along with the rest of the board."

He said Mr McBride was joining for the "next chapter of the Asos story" as the retailer looks to expand. It is targetting sales of £1bn year.
