Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing is looking to secure a major fight for Javier Fortuna (29-0-1, 21KOs), who holds the WBA's "regular" super featherweight world title.

Fortuna was in action on Tuesday night at the Palms in Las Vegas, where he busted up Olympian Carlos Velasquez for an eleventh round stoppage win in the headline bout of a Premier Boxing Champions televised card on Fox Sports 1.

One opponent in particular who interests both Fortuna and Lewkowicz is Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa (24-1, 17KOs).

Gamboa has been inactive since a victory last November in Mexico. He weighed around 131-pounds for that fight and expressed interest in heading back to super featherweight after a failed attempt at the lightweight title with champion Terence Crawford in June 2014.

"Fortuna is ready to fight anyone at super featherweight, including Gamboa. But, Gamboa has been out of the ring for a long time. First, let's see him take a fight and make 130-pounds. If he makes the weight, then let's do the fight. This would be a great fight for the fans. The fight would be fireworks from the first round," Lewkowicz told BoxingScene.com.

Another opponent is Takashi Uchiyama (23-0-1, 19KOs) of Japan, who holds the WBA's "super title" at 130-pounds.

Lewkowicz is open to making that fight - but only in the United States. He was very disappointed with the recent outcome for Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno, who many felt was robbed of a victory two weeks ago with WBA champion Shinsuke Yamanaka. Lewkowicz had worked with Moreno for many years.

Additionally, holding that fight in Japan would create issues with securing a television outlet in the United States due to the time difference.

"We have no problem fighting Uchiyama but I'm not sending Fortuna to Japan after what happened to Moreno and many others who came over. We would fight Uchiyama anywhere in the United States, which is a neutral location for both fighters. It would settle the case on who is the true WBA champion at 130-pounds," Lewkowicz said.
