MILAN -- World record holder David Rudisha had a rare loss in the 800 meters Sunday, finishing second to Mohammed Aman of Ethiopia at the Milan Notturna meet.
The 17-year-old Aman passed Rudisha entering the final straight at Milan's 19th century Arena Civica and edged the Kenyan to the line in 1 minute, 43.50 seconds -- with Rudisha crossing seven hundredths behind.
Rudisha appeared tired after winning his first world title last month and competing in Rieti and Brussels in the past week.
Rudisha clocked 1:41.33 in Rieti a week ago for the best time this year, slightly off his world mark of 1:41.01 set there last year.
Last year's IAAF World Athlete of the Year, Rudisha had been nearly unbeatable since failing to advance from the semifinals at the 2009 world championships in Berlin.
Aman won his semifinal heat at last month's worlds in Daegu, South Korea, but finished eighth in the final.
In other events, double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius of South Africa won the 400 in a respectable 45.97, considering that the track was wet from a rainstorm.
Commonwealth Games champion Silas Kiplagat of Kenya took the 1,500 in 3:33.28; and recently crowned world champion Olha Saladuha of Ukraine won the women's triple jump.
