Trade gives White Sox OF depth

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox acquired minor league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Kansas City Royals on Thursday for cash considerations in an attempt to add outfield depth at Triple-A Charlotte.

Hernandez, 26, has 70 games of major league experience, playing for both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins in 2012. He batted only .192 during his time in the big leagues, hitting three home runs with 13 RBIs.

Hernandez has played at the Triple-A level in every year since 2011. In four games at Triple-A Omaha this year he had three hits and an RBI. He has spent the majority of his eight minor league seasons as a center fielder.
