Cardinals place Jermaine Gresham on PUP, cut Alfonzo Dennard

TEMPE, Ariz. -- A day after he signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, tight end Jermaine Gresham was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Gresham was among a slew of roster moves the team announced two days before players report for training camp.

Tight end Troy Niklas and linebacker Zack Wagenmann on the active/non-football injury list.

Arizona also cut cornerback Alfonzo Dennard.

Gresham had surgery in March to repair a herniated disc in his back. Per preseason PUP rules, he cannot practice as long as he’s on the list but can be moved off the list at any time.

Niklas, who has been injury-riddled since he was drafted by the Cards in 2014, is sidelined with a hamstring injury, according to the team. He missed the final day of minicamp with a right-ankle injury and underwent a minor procedure the next day that removed a tightrope from his left ankle, which he injured during the 2014 season. Wagenmann was an undrafted free agent out of Montana who broke his foot during a pre-draft workout.

Arizona claimed Dennard off waivers from the New England Patriots in May but a crowded field at cornerback didn’t bode well for his shot at earning much playing time.
