Armie Hammer has joined the cast of Nocturnal Animals, the book adaptation that Tom Ford is writing and directing. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. star joins a cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kim Basinger and Aaron Taylor Johnson. He will play the role of Walker Morrow, Adams’ onscreen husband, in the film version of the 1993 Austin Wright novel Tony And Susan.
Focus Features landed worldwide rights to the film in one of the highest-profile deals at this year’s Cannes Film Festival — a deal reportedly worth $20 million. Production is set to start this fall. Ford is also producing with his A Single Man producing partner Robert Salerno.
The logline: Out of the blue, Susan Morrow (Adams) receives a package containing the manuscript of her ex-husband’s first novel. As she reads, she is drawn into the fictional life of Tony Hastings (Gyllenhaal). As his ordinary life is violently set off course, Susan is forced to confront her own past. The title comes from one of the stories in the book.
In addition to Guy Ritchie’s U.N.C.L.E., Hammer has finished three pics — the Safran Co-produced Mine, Nate Parker’s Birth Of A Nation and the Ben Wheatley Boston gangster tale Free Fire — and is attached to Final Portrait, about the life of Swiss painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti starring Geoffery Rush and written and directed by Stanley Tucci.
