Calhoun was released by the Yankees on Saturday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.

Calhoun triggered the opt-out clause in his minor-league deal with New York on Thursday and will now officially head into free agency. The veteran outfielder was sporting an impressive .919 OPS through 23 games (105 plate appearances) this season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
