Last summer, the podcaster Joe Rogan began promoting a previously obscure Twitter account to his millions of listeners. “Libs of TikTok is one of the greatest f***ing accounts of all time,” Rogan said.
The anonymous account had already gained attention among conservatives by reposting left-wing memes and videos from social media in which users discussed issues such as racial justice and gender identity. Mocking liberal “hypocrisy” and “wokeness”, Libs of TikTok had amassed about 65,000 followers.
With Rogan’s endorsement, however, the account was catapulted into conservative superstardom. Libs of TikTok’s following soared to more than 920,000 yesterday, and is now regularly cited by Republican politicians and right-wing commentators.
