G-Phoria Report

We checked out G4's awards party in Hollywood last night. Photos inside.

Last night our friends at G4 Media threw one of those crazy little Hollywood parties we lushes love, oh, so much. It was all about the unlimited food, open bar, music, games, the ladies and, of course, wandering celebrities. But the real reason for the shindig was to recognize some of the year's best games and give awards to the industry's many hard-working publishers and developers.

Held in Hollywood's Henry Fonda Theater, G-Phoria boasted a full house with a nearly two-hour red-carpet wait and an audience full of celebs boozing it up. Jamie Kennedy (Scream, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment) hosted the event and announced awards in key categories. Diane Mizota and Victor Lucas (Electric Playground, Judgment Day) were also on hand to conduct interviews with some of the celebs and gaming insiders.

Other big names were also around to speak. We especially liked seeing Vivid Girl Jenna Jameson A) with clothes on and B) mentioning that, "Things will only get better for Vice City 5". We also spotted Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Tony Hawk, Gena Lee Nolin, Kelly Hu, Traci Bingham, Colin Hanks, Brande Roderick, Hayden Panetierre, Shaun Murray and Mario Lopez, among others. Actors Ray Liotta and Michael Ironside as well as Nintendo mascot Mario Mario offered taped testimonials via G4's giant viewscreen, while Public Enemy and A Flock of Seagulls supplied the musical entertainment. Other highlights included a bikini parade of DOAX Beach Volleyball babes and plenty of cosplayers.

The IGN crew was around to primarily drink, but we did manage to sneak some more playtime with games like Konami's Karaoke Revolution (PS2), Full Spectrum Warrior (Xbox), and the upcoming N-Gage handheld. Party guests were able to sample E3 demo versions of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GameCube), Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (GameCube), Viewtiful Joe (GameCube), Need for Speed Underground (PS2), Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2), as well as some arcade favorites like Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix and the classic Pac-Man cocktail table version.

We also snapped as many covert photos of celebs as possible -- cameras were taboo inside the theater.
