New remains of the enigmatic dinosaur Spinosaurus from the Cretaceous of Morocco and the affinities between Spinosaurus and Baryonyx

Abstract
Remains of Spinosaurus from the Cretaceous (probably basal Cenomanian) of southern Morocco include an incomplete maxilla which sheds some light on the cranial anatomy of this enigmatic carnivorous dinosaur originally described by Stromer from the Cenomanian of Egypt. This leads to a reconsideration of the relationships of Spinosaurus with another unusual theropod dinosaur, Baryonyx walkeri from the Wealden of England. Although there are some differences between Spinosaurus and Baryonyx, they share several characters of the teeth and jaws which set them apart from other theropods and suggest that they were fairly closely related. They both seem to have been fish-eating theropods with somewhat crocodile-like jaws and teeth.
Kurzfassung
Spinosaurus-Reste aus der Kreide (wahrscheinlich unterstes Cenoman) Süd-Marokkos enthalten eine unvollständige Maxilla, die Angaben über die Schädelanatomie dieses rätselhaften, zuerst von Stromer aus dem Cenoman Ägyptens beschriebenen Raubdinosauriers liefert. Dies führt zu einer neuen Deutung der Beziehungen zwischen Spinosaurus und einem anderen ungewöhnlichen Theropoden, Baryonyx walkeri, aus dem Wealden Englands. Es gibt zwar Unterschiede zwischen Spinosaurus und Baryonyx, sie teilen jedoch verschiedene Schädel- und Bezahnungsmerkmale, die bei anderen Theropoden nicht vorkommen und auf eine enge Verwandtschaft schließen lassen. Beide scheinen ichthyophage, semiaquatische Theropoden mit Krokodil-ähnlichen Zähnen zu sein.
Résumé
Parmi des restes de Spinosaurus trouvés dans le Crétacé (probablement base du Cénomanien) du Sud marocain, un maxillaire incomplet fournit des indications sur l'anatomie crânienne de cet énigmatique dinosaure carnivore décrit à l'origine par Stromer dans le Cénomanien d'Egypte. Ce spécimen conduit à reconsidérer les relations entre Spinosaurus et un autre étrange théropode, Baryonyx walkeri, du Wealdien d'Angleterre. Bien qu'il y ait des différences entre Spinosaurus et Baryonyx, ils ont en commun plusieurs caractères des dents et des mâchoires qui les séparent des autres théropodes et suggèrent des relations de parenté assez étroite. Tous deux semblent avoir été des théropodes piscivores aux mâchoires rappelant quelque peu celles des Crocodiliens.
