Hands up if you're tired. Yep, me too. September has been a tiring month, with the start of a new school year, and quite frankly we all need a break. October half term can't come soon enough *sighs*. It's Halloween themed, surprise surprise, and we also give you ideas on Halloween make up. September has been a stress filled month. With school comes exams and with exams comes stress and with stress comes death. Ok, that was an over exaggeration. Due to school, this month we have seen some updaters sadly leave us, but as we wave goodbye to them, we wave hello to new updaters. It is actually astounding how on our tumblr we have more followers than posts, and one of our posts got 50k reblogs. They are doing a great job working together. Once I've settled back at school, in October, I will be designing and creating a website to try and get Fandoms Assemble as far out into the world as possible. We are trying to also make our twitter more active, but all in good time. In the few months that Fandoms Assemble has been going, it has achieved so much, and it is constantly achieving more. Who knows, maybe one day our readers could3 be holding a shiny, glossy paper edition of our magazine in their hands.

WHY VICTORIA (@TIMELINENARGLES) KEEPS CALM AND SHIPS JILY With pairings ranging from canon (Ron/ Hermione) to debatable (Harry/Hermione) to downright strange (Hedwig/Hagrid), there’s no denying that the Harry Potter fandom has a lot of shipping going on – and with shipping comes, inevitably, clashes between ships. A classic example is Jily (James/Lily) vs. Snily (Snape/Lily), which even had its own debate at LeakyCon. For me, the choice is clear, as Jily is my OTP – but why? Although Jily is an important canon ship, having produced the main character, Jily is not one of the relationships welldeveloped in the books or movies. This leads to plenty of skepticism on the part of non-shippers; how can we ship something with so little material to go on? However, this lack of concrete description is one of the things that makes Jily appealing. It allows fans to fill in the gaps with their own interpretations of James, Lily, their relationship, and the world they lived in. Excellent fanfictions such as The Life and Times and Commentarius, for example, have developed Jily as something more than two background characters. In a way, Jily, more so than any other major ship, belongs to the fandom. Within the loose ideas that we have from J.K. Rowling, Jily is still an appealing and valid ship. James Potter - Marauder, Quidditch player, gifted student and loyal Gryffindor - pursued Lily Evans - witty, kindhearted, and exceptionally talented – for years before she agreed to go out with him and consequently fell in love. Say what you will about James Potter, whose character is hotly debated*, but it cannot be denied that in the end, he was a 18

good man, and furthermore, that he loved Lily very much. At only 21 years old, James faced Voldemort without a wand in order to buy Lily and Harry time, knowing he was going to die. The fact that Jily consists of James and Lily Potter is in itself a confirmation of Lily’s love for James in return, as is Harry’s very existence. Apart from the romantic aspect of Jily, which is further discussed in the other section of this article, the setting in which Jily takes place is another reason why it is so attractive. Jily was another couple who found themselves thrown into a world torn by war. We get to see the effects of the Wizarding War on an earlier generation, during which Voldemort rose to power. Within Hogwarts’ walls, Jily is part of the Marauders’ Era, which many fans are interested in. The one great downfall of Jily for all of its passionate shippers is the miserable, unavoidable fact that both James and Lily have been dead since page 1, murdered by Voldemort in the event that brought about the affairs in the series. In a strange way, however, their tragic death is one of the things that makes Jily really shine. We love more the things we can lose; with every fanfiction, every fanart, every depiction of James and Lily’s relationship, we remember their fate, and we value them more. Yes, James and Lily died at 21, sacrificing themselves for family, for love, but they died together, and perhaps that’s one of the things that makes Jily so strong. * In OotP, James was shown “bullying” Snape, which has given him a reputation of being cruel and arrogant; however, given that Snape was involved with the Dark Arts and was clearly also antagonistic towards James, this is a somewhat unfair label. We know that James was fiercely loyal to those he loved, a fine Gryffindor, and set against Voldemort and his supporters. Lily is extolled for sacrificing herself to save Harry; James sacrificed himself to buy his family time, which is just as admirable. 19

FANDOM UPDATES What is happening in the fandom world right now SHERLOCK
SUPERNATURAL Misha Collins discusses Destiel. Misha told us how he would be game for a fan fiction-affirming kiss between Castiel and Dean. That’s if Jensen agrees to do something first. Misha went on to say how he does sense a definite tension between Castiel and Dean on set, especially after coming into contact with fanfiction that ships and points out the connections between the two. Also there was a sneak peak of season 9 released. Friday the 13th was the 8 year anniversary of Supernatural as well!
What an exciting month for Sherlock fans. Season 3 filming just came to a finish, with tweets confirming this from Mark Gatiss, Neville Kidd, Sue Vertue and BBC One. Benedict Cumberbatch will be awarded with the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year at the 2013 BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards on November 7th. Also the set of Sherlock was unfortunately ripped down until next time. BBC released new photos from Sherlock set. Benedict Cumberbatch also attended TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) for several of his new movies!
BANDOMS Technically All Time Low didn’t release 'A Love Like War', - a song from their new extended edition of Don’t Panic which features Pierce the Veil frontman, Vic Fuentes - it was leaked. But still, it’s a great song! The single is set to be released very soon however and this little morsel has only whet the appetites of All Time Low fans for the rest of the extended album coming out in October. Second of all is the first official radio play of You Me At Six's new single 'Lived A Lie'. It was played this evening on Radio 1 and is available to download from iTunes. The band also released the name of their new album, Cavalier Youth, but it is still unknown when exactly it will be come out.

step up their performances considerably from the first film, however, everyone is blown away when Cumberbatch is on screen. The man is a powerhouse, both in character, and out, confirming he is one of the best actors working today. The SFX in the film are very good, however, a lot of practical effects were used to great effect. The use of them just makes the film look better, with actors able to easily react to the effects.
The sequel to 2009’s Star Trek, directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Trek Into Darkness raises the stakes for the crew of the Enterprise. Returning to star are the majority of the cast; Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban playing Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy, Simon Pegg as Scotty and Zoe Saldana as Uhura. There is also the welcome addition of Benedict Cumberbatch as the villainous Kahn. in summary, Star Trek Into Darkness is about one man’s war against Starfleet, and how evil can be perceived. The whole cast give good performances, with Scotty and Bones providing the comic relief when things are getting just a bit too bleak. Pine and Quinto step

There are, as ever, some problems with the film. A few plot holes let it down, and, without going into too much detail because of spoilers, they make the film harder to immerse yourself in, as you end up thinking: ‘well, why isn’t that happening, then?’ These questions unfortunately take away from the enjoyment of the film, although if you don’t think about it too much, they won’t bother you. There are some predictable moments too, which you will spot if you’ve been paying attention, but if not, then again, these won’t bother you. Wrapping it up, Star Trek Into Darkness is a fantastic summer blockbuster, and sci-fi film. Ignoring the plot holes, which I probably have made too big a deal out of, it is great. A very enjoyable two hours, which never feels too long because of some excellent pacing, I fully recommend this film to any fans of Star Trek and sci-fi in general, as well as fans of Benedict Cumberbatch, who serves as an excellent reason to watch this (if you’re trying to find one).

It’s A Waiting Game It’s not too long until the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary. Well, this is what I tell myself every five minutes. It’s something to calm me down after all of the waiting we’ve had to do. To be honest, we’ve all been waiting for something. The new series of Supernatural, the Allegiant book, City of Heavenly Fire, the Hobbit, Catching Fire, the Divergent Trailer, and of course, Season 3 of Sherlock. As fandoms, we really do know how to wait. It’s obvious we all try to be as patient as possible, but it’s hard when people are posting heart-wrenching gifs on tumblr. Of course, the Harry Potter fandom are at a very loose end at the moment. We want to know if JK Rowling will ever write a Marauders series, or books about Albus Severus Potter. Also, I’m hoping that somehow Merlin can return. If the end of the series turns out to be a dream, I think we’ll scream with excitement. We certainly have strange ways of coping with all of the waiting. We pain ourselves by reading and writing fan fictions. We stalk our favourite actors to our heart’s content (or is that just me?). We even re-watch all of the most emotional scenes, just to pass the time. I honestly don’t know if I can cope with watching the Angels Take Manhattan again, but I don’t have much else to do. However, all of the things that we’ve been waiting for aren’t very far away. Our reunion with David Tennant is in November, as well as Catching Fire. Allegiant is being published this month! The new season of Supernatural is starting in October as well. The Hobbit is being released in December, so we don’t have too much longer. Who knows? Maybe we’ll finally have Season 3 of Sherlock, considering we’ve had to wait nearly two years now. But one thing’s for sure: For fandoms, it’s definitely a waiting game. 39

So will Stefan and Elena be drawn back together due to their ‘cosmic connection’, or will she finally find everything she wants in Damon? Although, it will be hard for them to play happy families, whoever she chooses, with new villain Silas wrecking the town. Not to mention Katherine back with her regained humanity.

The Originals is a TVD spin-off series that will focus on The Original family. It is set in New Orleans and focuses on the share of power in the city. Other than The Originals main characters include Marcel – a sire of Klaus - and Hayley who you will know from TVD. The series’ pilot was included in the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries titled ‘The Originals.’ In it we met Marcel, Sophie Devereux and Hayley dropped the baby bombshell. Klaus and Elijah form an unstable alliance with Sophie and her community of witches whilst they wait for Rebekah to join them in New Orleans. The young witch has become rebellious due to the loss of her sister to Marcel and the disappearance of Davina – a fellow witch. She is prepared to do anything to Marcels power over the witches in the French Quarter.

All Hallows Eve By @LeHermioneJean Today is a day that will be remembered all through out history; a day eager children count down for. Most will remember it as Halloween: a time where people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off evil spirits, or later on, a time where small children dress up in costumes and knock on people's doors asking for sweets. But some, the unlucky few one may say, remember it for something entirely different. For this day thirty two years ago, everything changed for those few. A child lost his parents; a sister lost a sister; men lost their best friend; the world lost two valuable people in not only the fight against evil, but in life. What horror could have happened that meant these miseries would occur? That very night a coward succumbed to evil. This coward, a once so called friend to the victims, told Lord Voldemort where James and Lily Potter were living. After Voldemort ruthlessly slaughtered a defenceless man, who died protecting his wife and son; and after Voldemort ruthlessly slaughtered a woman begging for him to spare her son; and after Voldemort tried to ruthlessly slaughter an innocent one year old, one would think the coward would have finished with his work, one would think that he had ruined

enough lives in one day. But no: for that very night an innocent man was sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit, a crime he was framed for by the very coward who sold his best friends to their deaths. Every Halloween, those mentioned, and many more, would weep. They would weep for the loss of their family and friends who were so close that they were practically family. They would remember the good and the bad times, but most of all, they would remember the Potters for who they were and how they died with good in their hearts. Take 1993, for instance: it was the orphaned son's third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the very same his parents attended and only twenty years ago. and he thought himself to be the only one weeping over the tragedy. Little did he know, but at that moment Sirius Black was weeping for his best friend in his prison cell in Azkaban. Remus Lupin, wherever he was, was weeping too, over the loss. Petunia Dursley sat silently, alone, as tears ran down her cheek as she thought of her sister who, although she seemed to hate, had died too young and too soon. Albus Dumbledore was sombrely standing as waves of melancholy washed over him as he reminisced about his two favourite pupils. Even Peter Petigrew, the coward who had sent them to their deaths so many years ago, felt a small twinge or remorse for his best friend. Harry Potter, the boy who lived, was not alone that night, or any other Halloween night, for there was always someone, somewhere, feeling his pain.
