toddle (v.)
"to run or walk with short, unsteady steps," c. 1600, Scottish and northern English, a word of uncertain origin, possibly related to or a variant of totter (1530s) influenced by waddle, etc. An identical word in a sense of "to toy, play" is attested c. 1500. Related: Toddled; toddling. As a noun, "an uncertain gait with short, feeble steps," by 1825.
