Capcom: E3 Booth Report

Sequels, ports, and originals, oh my!! Capcom shows they're still in the game with Devil May Cry 2, Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO, and Steel Battalion.

If you haven't heard the name Capcom before then you've either don't play video games or you're content playing your Atari 2600 for the rest of your life. Capcom revolutionized the fighting game industry with Street Fighter II and built a franchise based off of the Survival Horror Genre with Resident Evil.


Everyone in the industry has heard Capcom's name at one point in time and the proof was in the packed booth. Everyones' eyes were fixated on the two giant Steel Battalion cabinets, and well they should be.

The Games

Auto Modellista
Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: Racing
Auto Modellista is a Cell Shaded racing game where you can customize your own cars and play against either a computer or your friends. Capcom had several cool sitdown driving cabinets giving you the true driving experience.

Breath Of Fire 5

Genre: RPG
The fifth chapter of this classic RPG is now on the PS2. Collect new weapons and items, meet different party members, and save the world Capcom played this on their video main video reel.

Capcom Vs. Marvel 2

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 2/X-Box
Genre: Fighting
This classic Dreamcast fighter is back on the PlayStation 2. Choose your favorite character from classic fighting games such as Ryu and Chun Li from Street Fighter or a character from other non-fighting Capcom classics such as Jill from Resident Evil or Megaman from Megaman. As far as we can tell this is a straight port from the Dreamcast version. It looked the same, it played the same. Nothing new here.

Capcom Vs. SNK 2: EO

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: GameCube
Genre: Fighting
Classic characters from the Capcom and SNK franchises face off in this ultimate fighting experience. There are over 40 fighters from classics such as Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, KOF, and Samurai Showdown. Like Capcom vs. Marvel this is a straight port from the Dreamcast version. Capcom has several playables of this one.

Clock Tower 3

Developer: Sunsoft
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: Survival Horror
Crazy scissor man is back in this third installment of Clock Tower. Search rooms, solve clues, and avoid the body slicing hunchback from hell. This one was also in Capcom's big reel of fun. No playables here folks, maybe next year.

Devil May Cry 2

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: Action
Dante's back in the sequel to the fast paced action survival horror game, Devil May Cry. Use your double pistols and demon saber to maim and juggle the creatures of hell, to become the ultimate demon killer. There were no playables on the floor and we could only see this trailer on Capcom's demo reel.

Dino Stalker

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: First Person Shooter
Dino Stalker is the third installment in the Gun Survivor series except instead of being in the world of Resident Evil, you are now stuck in Prehistoric times battling for your life in the realm of Dino Crisis. This game allows you to use the Namco gun, but plays like a first person shooter. Capcom has several monitors that you can play this baby on.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 5

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: Action Adventure
This Cell Shaded comic book action adventure game is based off the fifth generation of Hirohiko Araki's popular Japanese comic series, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. There were three playable machines with this baby and we played every level of this Manga Goodness.

A board game with characters designed by Susumu Matsushida, the same character designer who worked on Maximo. Roll the dice and move your pieces to victory. A watchable demo was available on Capcom's main reel.

Megaman 0

Genre: Action
This installment of the classic action platformer, stars Zero the character who helped you throughout the Megaman X series. A few playables were available on the floor.

Megaman Battle Network 2

Genre: Action
Megaman takes his second step into the RPG world with Megaman Battle Network 2. A few playables were available on the floor.

Megaman X7

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: Action
This classic game continues its run on the PS2 in the eighth title in the series. You can play Megaman or Zero in this cell shaded action adventure delight. No playables here. Just the video playing on Capcom's main reel.

Onimusha 2

Platforms: PlayStation 2/X-Box
Genre: Survival Horror
Nobunaga's back and it's up to a new hero, Yagyu Jubei with the power of Onimusha to stop him. Make friends with various individuals, collect multiple weapons, and fight your way through ancient Japan. Hey, we already gave you the import review and the guide. What more do you want?

Red Dead Revolver

Developer: Angel Studios
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: Western 3rd Person Shooter
Welcome to the old west, you are a the lone gunman who must clean up the town. This 3rd person shooter was playable on several machines on the floor.

Let's take a look to what happened before Resident Evil. Rebecca Chambers, the young medic who helped Chris in the first installment, must solve the mystery of the haunted train. Several machines were demoing this survival horror title.

Resident Evil Online

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: PlayStation 2
Genre: Online Survival Horror
Racoon city has been overrun with zombies. It is up to you and all of your online buddies to make your way through the chaos and survive. This game was shown at Sony's press conference as one of their future online titles.

Steel Battalion

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: X-Box
Genre: Mech Simulator
Capcom's new combat mech simulation game puts you in the driver's seat. Take your giant robot and wreck shop. Control your combat mech the only you should, with a big honking 40 button, three foot long twin joystick. There are a total of three arcade sized machines stretched over Capcom and Microsofts' booths.

Street Fighter Alpha 3

Platforms: GameBoy Advance
Genre: 2D Fighting
This classic 2D fighter is now on the GameBoy Advance. Play your favorite Street Fighters, Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, and become the World's Stronger Fighter. Capcom had several machines with this classic fighter. Two machines were dedicated to this game.

Super Ghouls and Ghosts

Developer: Capcom
Platforms: GameBoy Advance
Genre: Action
Super Ghouls and Ghosts is back and this time it's on the GameBoy Advance. Take Arthur through a collection of levels collecting different weapons and armor along the way. Alas only one playable machine was there.
