Gary Lineker introduces live coverage as Argentina play Nigeria
Gary Lineker introduces live coverage as Argentina play Nigeria

Gary Lineker presents live World Cup coverage of the Group B clash between Argentina and Nigeria at Ellis Park, Johannesburg.

Two-times champions Argentina are among the favourites for the tournament, despite the inexperience of coach Diego Maradona. The South Americans have an awesome attacking line-up, including Manchester City's Carlos Tevez and Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain, but the star attraction is undoubtedly Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

Nigeria sacked their coach earlier this year, instead turning to Lars Lagerback, who was in joint charge when Sweden eliminated Argentina at the 2002 World Cup. The Super Eagles only just qualified for South Africa despite having the likes of John Obi Mikel and Obafemi Martins at their disposal.

2010 Fifa World Cup – Match Of The Day Live is simulcast on the BBC HD channel – the BBC's High Definition channel, available through Freesat 108, Freeview 50, Sky 143 and Virgin 108.

Casualty – Inconvenient Truths

Saturday 12 June
8.20-9.10pm BBC ONE

A third victim of the cryptococcsis virus dies and Lenny and Yuki are on a mission to find the source, as the medical drama continues.

There's even more trouble in the Emergency Department when a local goth (played by former EastEnder Louisa Lytton) puts a curse on Big Mac and Charlie puts misplaced faith in Shona.

Lenny and Yuki are still searching for the source of the cryptococcsis outbreak. Jordan tells them to leave it to the proper doctors, but Lenny can't let it go. When third victim Cheryl dies, Lenny pursues her boyfriend Cal for answers. Yuki theorises the crypto may have jumped from chickens to humans at a local farm, but when Lenny investigates, he's stonewalled.

In frustration, Lenny warns off parents, sparking a panic. When it turns out the farm isn't the source, Lenny takes another approach. Getting Cheryl's mysterious cheque from Cal, Lenny discovers she was part of a drugs trial. This could have dangerous and wide-ranging implications for the team. Jordan's interest is now absolute.

Charlie gives Shona yet another chance with a temp job in the ED's admin. Shona can't handle the pressure but won't admit it, much to Kirsty's frustration. Goth Grace rubs Shona up the wrong way, so she enters her in the computer's queuing system and then deliberately forgets her. But Shona doesn't bargain on Kirsty's keen eye, putting the two on a collision course. And Grace isn't afraid to stir things up a bit with Big Mac while she's kept hanging around...

Steve Miller plays Lenny, with Will Sharpe as Yuki, Louisa Lytton as Grace, Charles Dale as Big Mac, Derek Thompson as Charlie, Evelyn Hoskins as Shona, Ciaran Kellgren as Cal, Michael French as Jordan and Lucy Gaskell as Kirsty.

Formula 1 – Canadian Grand Prix Qualifying

Live event/outside broadcast
Saturday 12 June
5.00-7.15pm BBC TWO

Jake Humphrey hosts live coverage of qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix.

The traditional Montreal venue makes a welcome return to the Formula 1 calendar. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a particular favourite of 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton; he claimed his second successive pole position at the venue two years ago, beating Robert Kubica's time with a last-gasp flying lap.

However, there was controversy during qualifying in 2008 with drivers complaining that the track surface had started to break up, and organisers were forced to carry out resurfacing work in between qualifying and the race itself.

When Romeo Met Juliet Ep 3/3

Saturday 12 June
8.45-9.45pm BBC TWO

After eight weeks of enormously hard work, the cast of Coventry teenagers from two schools are now just three days away from putting on a professional production of Romeo And Juliet.

They have moved into a modern space in the city's Belgrade Theatre for a weekend of final rehearsals. There's make-up and costumes to try on, lighting and an Eighties set to get used to, but can the teens remember their lines?

Actor mentors Adrian Lester and Lolita Chakrabarti are on hand to try to settle nerves and offer last-minute advice, as director Paul Roseby puts the final touches to the production.

It's show time. Can the cast, who have given up their summer holidays to take on the challenge of their young lives, cut it as actors and pull off a Romeo And Juliet for a new generation?

The young cast will only perform once so there are no second chances. As their friends and family pile into the theatre, an audience gathers outside to watch the play being broadcast live on a big screen. There are plenty of last-minute nerves but excitement builds as the curtain rises and their fantastic journey reaches its climax.

2010 FIFA WORLD CUP
Match Of The Day

Saturday 12 June
10.15-11.05pm BBC TWO

Match Of The Day features highlights from today's three World Cup matches, including England's opener against the USA, Argentina's clash with Nigeria and the game between South Korea and Greece.

Italian coach Fabio Capello has revitalised England, and confidence should be high after an impressive qualifying campaign. The Three Lions are the favourites to top Group C, but will know better than to underestimate their American opponents. The USA famously beat England at the 1950 World Cup, and will be gunning for another scalp in Rustenburg.

In Group B, Greece is in search of a first World Cup point against South Korea, semi-finalists as recently as 2002. The Greeks lost all three matches in their only previous appearance in 1994, but will be a tough nut to crack under experienced coach Otto Rehhagel.

Today's early game was a mouth-watering clash between Argentina and Nigeria at Ellis Park, where the Super Eagles were hoping to stop Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.
