The Athletics designated Vogt for assignment Thursday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Despite Vogt's down year (.217/.287/.357 in 174 plate appearances), this comes as a bit of a surprise, considering he was an All-Star the previous two seasons. Still, Oakland has decided to move on from the 32-year-old, instead focusing more on Josh Phegley and Bruce Maxwell. Though he could remain with Oakland on a minors placement, Vogt could catch on in some form with another organization. His future role is worth tracking considering he, even with a part-time role, can help two-catcher fantasy players. In all likelihood, he'd land in a better offensive home park if he leaves, as well.
