Immersion Elevates Legal Head to CEO Amid Patent Battles (1)

Immersion Corp., a technology development and licensing company known for taking on some of the world’s largest companies, has turned to a longtime in-house lawyer to become its new CEO.

Francis Jose, Immersion’s general counsel and senior vice president of intellectual property licensing and legal affairs, has succeeded Jared Smith as top executive, according to an Aug. 30 securities filing by the San Jose, Calif.-based company.

Smith, a vice president of worldwide sales at Immersion, had been serving as CEO on an interim basis following the resignation of the company’s former leader, Ramzi Haidamus, on Nov. 3, 2020.
