Thornton Tomasetti has been selected as the lead structural engineer for the new Minnesota Vikings stadium, the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority announced Friday.

The New York firm is one of the nation's leading structural engineering companies, having worked on numerous high-profile projects, including the new Met Life Stadium, which is the New Jersey home of the New York Giants and New York Jets, and the new Yankee Stadium.

In the Twin Cities, it has worked on the Minneapolis Central Library and the 50 South Sixth office tower.

Thornton Tomasetti has selected a pair of local firms as subcontractors on the Vikings project: New Prague-based Chase Engineering and New Hope-based Palanisami & Assoc.

The contract value was not immediately available.

While Thornton Tomasetti has worked on many stadium and arena projects around the country, it has not worked on recent sports projects in Minnesota. Houston-based Walter P. Moore, another of the nation's top structural engineers, was the top firm for Target Field, and Seattle-based Magnusson Klemencic Assoc. worked on TCF Bank Stadium.
