At the age of 31, and after several years spent in a journeyman role going team to team, former Tigers’ right fielder Brennan Boesch has decided to hang up his glove and retire from the game.
Outfielder Brennan Boesch, 31, has retired. He was 3rd-round pick from Harvard-Westlake HS in '06, played for Tigers, Yankees, Angels, Reds.

Boesch, a native of California, was selected by the Tigers in the third round of the 2006 draft. He won a minor league Gold Glove during his time with the SeaWolves, and was the Minor League Player of the Month when he graduated to the Mud Hens in 2010. He made his major league debut with the Tigers April 23, 2010.
He finished 5th in Rookie of the Year voting during his first season with the Tigers, and in his time with Detroit hit for .259/.315/.414. He had an injury shortened 2011 season, but rebounded in 2012 and managed to be the only left-handed batter to get a home run off White Sox pitcher Chris Sale that year.
Ultimately, when the Tigers signed Torii Hunter for the 2013 season, Boesch was no longer needed in the outfield and the team released him during spring training. He was picked up by the Yankees, but was later released in spite of having excellent numbers with the club. After his time with the Yankees ended he received minor league contracts with the Angels, Reds, and Red Sox.
In the end, he wasn’t able to get a major league deal as a free agent, and didn’t play in the majors at all in 2016. His final career line is .250/.303/.400.
