Over the weekend of June 8-9, fifteen athletes from the Lawrence High School Special Olympics program competed alongside 1500 other athletes from across the state at the Special Olympics Massachusetts Summer Games held at Harvard University. Lawrence athletes competed in track and field, including the 50- and 100-meter walk, the 50- and 100-meter dash, the softball throw, and the tennis ball throw, and won a host of medals for their performances. Along the way, they developed confidence and athleticism, while socializing with athletes from communities all over the state. Coached by Migdalia Pomales with assistance from volunteers including Richard Gorham, the team trained for the Games for several months, practicing weekly after school.
