Peter Sarsgaard is in final negotiations to play Robert Kennedy opposite Natalie Portman in the Jackie Kennedy drama “Jackie,” sources tell Variety.

Pablo Larrain is directing the movie with Darren Aronofsky producing along with his partner Scott Franklin at Protozoa Pictures and Juan de Dios Larrain of Chile’s Fabula.

The film follows the first four days in the beloved former First Lady’s life after the assassination of her husband, President John. F. Kennedy. She lost the love of her life, but won the love of a nation.

International rights were sold at the recent Cannes Film Festival while CAA is still repping domestic rights as it looks for a distributor. Production on the project is expected to begin at the end of 2015.

Sarsgaard has had a busy year with the Bobby Fischer drama “Pawn Sacrifice” and the Whitey Bulger biopic “Black Mass” both bowing in Toronto. He still has his Sundance pic “The Experimenter” set to hit theaters later this year, followed by the MGM remake of “The Magnificent Seven,” where he co-stars with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt.

He is repped by WME, Authentic Talent, Literary Management and Peikoff Mahan Law Office.
