Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen has officially open The Hub, Stadium:MK, and the new St John's Ambulance Centre at Greenleys.

At the Dons new ground they, together with a massive audience, enjoyed a performance by local school children on the pitch, celebrating 40 years of Milton Keynes.

The trip culminated with them planting two trees close to where Queen Victoria and Prince Albert planted a pair of trees in 1845.

The Chief Executive of Milton Keynes Council, John Best, said that it was an exciting day for everybody in Milton Keynes.

"I think it's really important that we're going to have 20,000 people at the stadium and potentially 30,000 people in all will actually get to be with the Queen" he said, "but it's also important for 230,000 people across the whole of the city. It's not just that she's the Queen, she's a very, very important head of state."

Starstruck

The Chairman of the MK Dons Pete Winkleman was extremely pleased with how the day went.

"What a fantastic day we've had" he said.

"I've got to tell you, I've gone all starstruck! "She has a charisma, she has a warmth .... the Queen is somebody very special and she made us all feel very special.

"It was sensational" he continued.

"It was an electric moment when the whole of the crowd in Stadium:MK realised that she was there and this roar and warmth went around the stadium.

"It was one of those days when you hope you can put your best face forward and you know what, Milton Keynes did!

"We are the biggest place that's been created in her Majesty's reign and that makes us unique, it makes us something special."
