PORTLAND, Ore. — Ted Wheeler was sworn in as mayor of Portland Friday morning in a private event closed to the media.
Wheeler was elected mayor earlier this year and will replace Charlie Hales, who served one term and didn't run for re-election.
Wheeler officially becomes mayor on Sunday, Jan. 1.
A public inauguration will be held at 10:30 a.m. next Wednesday at Jason Lee Elementary School in NE Portland. He'll make short remarks there, and will have his first official press conference as mayor on Friday, Jan. 6.
Wheeler previously served as state treasurer.
