Profiles of nations categorized by continent analyze how political, social, cultural, and economic events in each country shape its development and future. This four-volume reference places political, social, cultural and economic events in an integrated worldwide timeframe that covers 192 nations. It contains about 7,200 entries arranged in geographic volumes - Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe. Each volume includes photographs and maps, a graphical timeline that integrates the historic highlights from all countries, a glossary, and bibliographies for each country, a subject index and an appendix of excerpts from primary documents. Although it focuses on the 20th century, it also covers events with far-reaching consequences from ancient history. Entries profiling events, persons and places range from 50 to 250 words, while overview essays on regions and nations run one to two pages
