アポロ1号

アポロ1号は、アメリカ合衆国のアポロ計画において、1967年2月21日の発射を目指して準備が進められていた最初の有人宇宙飛行計画である。AS-204（アポロ-サターン204）の指定番号が与えられている。同年1月27日、ケープ・カナベラル空軍基地34番発射台上で発射の予行演習を行っていた際に発生した火災により、船長ガス・グリソム (Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom)、副操縦士エドワード・ホワイト (Edward H. White)、飛行士ロジャー・チャフィー (Roger B. Chaffee) の3名が犠牲になり、司令船も焼失した。アポロ1号の名は当初は乗員たちによって任意に称されていたが、1967年4月24日、NASAはこの事故を記憶にとどめるため、正式にこれを計画の番号とした[1]。
