PM Thongloun elected as Party Chief by XI Party Congress
Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith was elected on Friday as Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee – the top post in the Party replacing retiring Party Chief Bounnhang Vorachit.
The PM was elected to assume the five-year term at the inaugural congress of the new Party Central Committee, whose members were elected at the three-day 11th National Party Congress that ended on Friday.
The congress elected 71 Party central committee members.
At its inaugural congress, the Party Central Committee also elected 13 members of the politburo – the top political body in the Lao politics. These increased by two members compared to previous 11 members.
