Los Angeles Dodgers prospect A.J. Alexy started and led a Great Lakes Loons pitching staff that completed its second straight shutout.
The Loons ran their shutout streak to 22 innings with a 7-0 win Wednesday over Lake County at Dow Diamond.
Alexy, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, allowed one hit, no runs and no walks in 3 2/3 innings. The 11th-round draft pick struck out seven, throwing 37 of 53 pitches for strikes.
The 19-year-old from Twin Valley High School in Elverson, Pennsylvania has started four games and has thrown 12 2/3 innings. He has given up three hits and one walk, striking out 19 and posting a 0.71 earned run average.
William Soto followed with 4 1/3 shutout innings to improve to 3-0. Soto allowed four hits and struck out four. Patrick Duester finished with a shutout inning.
Loons pitchers did not walk a batter and struck out 12.
The Loons' offense banged out 11 hits, with Oneil Cruz, Brendon Davis, Mitchell Hansen and Luis Paz getting two hits each. Cody Thomas added two walks and two runs scored.
The Loons broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning.
Great Lakes, 9-11, begins a four-game road trip with a Thursday night game at Dayton.
