BOSTON -- Red Sox infielder Marco Hernandez underwent a left shoulder anterior stability revision procedure in Colorado on Tuesday, the Red Sox announced. Hernandez will miss the rest of the season.

Hernandez made only 21 appearances for Boston in 2017 before undergoing his first of what is now three shoulder surgeries. He was considered an option to contribute for the Sox during spring training but was not healthy and has not appeared in any type of game so far this year.

Hernandez, who will be 26 in September, owns a .284/.328/.349 line in 61 games for Boston over the past two seasons, seeing time at second base, shortstop and third. If healthy, he could vow for a utility role with the club during spring training in 2019.
