Paul Gascoigne facing second drink-driving charge

Former football star Paul Gascoigne has been charged with drinking and driving for the second time in less than a year.

The 43-year-old Tyneside-born former England midfielder was stopped by police in Newcastle on Friday.

He was breathalysed and later charged. He is due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on 20 October.

Gascoigne is due to stand trial next month for allegedly drinking and driving in North Yorkshire in February.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in the Jesmond area of Newcastle on Friday 8 October.

"He was charged with driving with excess alcohol and bailed to appear before Newcastle Magistrates on 20 October."

Last week, Gascoigne was lined up to become boss of Garforth Town, in the Evostik First Division North League, but the former Newcastle, Tottenham and Lazio midfielder pulled out of the deal.
