Canadian Open Format & Qualification

Format

The Canadian Open features 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams with a triple knockout preliminary round.

Qualification

Qualification for the 2020 Meridian Canadian Open is based on both the WCF World Team Rankings and year-to-date rankings as of Dec. 16, 2019.

  • The top seven teams based on the WCF World Team Rankings will receive an invitation.
  • The top seven teams based on the year-to-date rankings will receive an invitation.
  • One spot is available for a sponsor’s exemption as the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling reserves the right to implement a sponsor’s exemption in both the men’s and women’s event in which one spot could be filled at their discretion.
  • The final spot will be reserved for the winners of the KIOTI Tractor Tour Challenge Tier II.

This qualification breakdown will be applied in both the men’s and women’s event to complete the 16-team field of the Meridian Canadian Open.

As there will be teams that will be ranked in the top seven on both lists, we will go down both lists evenly until we complete the field (beginning with the WCF World Team Rankings and continuing to YTD). We will seed the pools as per the rankings on Dec. 24, 2019.
