'Tauke' inducted into AFC Hall of Fame

Datuk Soh Chin Aun has been inducted into the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Hall of Fame.

Joining the former Malaysia captain on the Hall of Fame list, aimed at recognising Asia’s finest stars, were Iranian legends Homayoun Bhezadi and Ali Daei, Japanese duo of Yasuhiko Okudera and Homare Sawa, and Saudi Arabia star Sami Al Jaber.

The AFC also inducted Sun Wen from China, Korea Republic’s Hong Myung-bo, Baichung Bhutia from India and Australia’s Harry Kewell.

Renowned for his vocal presence at the heart of the Malaysia defence, Datuk Soh was one of the members of the golden generation of Malaysian football during the 70s and early 80s.

He appeared at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games and later captained Malaysia during the qualifiers for the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

In total he made 252 international appearances for the country, which is the record for the most caps won by a player in the world but unfortunately not internationally recognised.

The Melaka-born defender represented Selangor at club level from 1970 to 1980 before moving to his home state team for the rest of his career.
