This weekend is a special one for Bainbridge resident Bobby Walden. He is being named to the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Time Team. The Steelers are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year.
After playing with the University of Georgia, Walden went on to play 14 years in the NFL, 1964-1967 with Minnesota and 1968 to 1977 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has been inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

Bobby Walden still owns the Steelers' all-time record for career punts with 716, and his 41.1-yard average puts him seventh on the team's all-time list.
He played in Superbowl IX in 1975 where the Steelers beat Minnesota 16-6 and in Superbowl X in 1976 where the Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21–17.
With all the fame and awards in his life, what means the most to Bobby Walden is the letters he receives from fans. In his "glory years" he would receive a box of letters and cards from fans every week. Still today, he continues to receive 6 to 8 every week.
One letter, he received years ago, was accidentally packed up in one of his moves, and stayed packed for 16 years. When he came across it, Bobby faithfully signed a picture and sent it to the address included, hoping it would get to his fan. It went to the fan's mother's house. Calling her son, she asked if he was expecting something from Bobby Walden. Yes, he answered, 16 years ago. Bobby received a very nice letter of thanks.
On Monday Night Football, Bobby Walden and the All-Time Steeler Team will be presented during a halftime ceremony.
