The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has decided to support the United National Party (UNP) in the forthcoming general election to form a stable government, SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem said yesterday at a press briefing.
The SLMC also wishes to see a stable government in collaboration with the UNP to protect and preserve the mandate given by the people on 8 January.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has decided to support the United National Party (UNP) in the forthcoming general election to form a stable government, SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem said yesterday at a press briefing.
The SLMC also wishes to see a stable government in collaboration with the UNP to protect and preserve the mandate given by the people on 8 January.
The SLMC has also joined hands with the National Front of Good Governance (NFGG) which has an agreement with the SLMC to contest in Batticaloa and Trincomalee under the tree symbol. In the Wanni District the SLMC will contest alone.
In Puttalam, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Kandy, Digamadulla and Gampaha the SLMC will be contesting under the UNP symbol.
Hakeem also said, "We will be able to introduce new electoral, political and constitutional reforms under a UNP Government."
