Sessue Hayakawa became something of a Hollywood movie idol with his starring appearance in this proto-disaster film produced by Thomas H. Ince, with Tsuru Aoki, future director Frank Borzage, and an erupting volcano in support.
The film has been restored by the George Eastman House film archive.

This Hayakawa double-bill features The Wrath of the Gods transferred from the 35mm restoration by the George Eastman House film archive, coupled with their recent 35mm restoration of The Dragon Painter.
The features are supplemented with a Hayakawa appearance in a novelty short, the original script for The Wrath of the Gods, a stills gallery, an essay by Brian Taves, and the text of the source novel, The Dragon Painter by Mary McNeil Fenollosa. The features are accompanied by music scores by Marco Lienhard and Mark Izu.
