Twitch On PlayStation 4 Makes Brilliant Innovations

We had a look at how Twitch will run on the PlayStation 4 today at Sony's event in New York City. While the interface looks familiar, it offers streamlined usability not before seen on consoles.

If you've ever streamed from a console to Twitch and want to monitor the comments, you know you need to use a separate screen to watch the chat. Not anymore.

The Twitch app on PlayStation 4 smartly places the chat feed on the right hand side of the screen. Not only can you see how many are watching and subscribed, but you can see everything being said about your performance right on your television. Additionally, if you have the PlayStation Camera, you can add that to the stream.

When configuring your channel, you can toggle the camera on and off, use your microphone, and turn the chat panel off entirely. We're eager to see what our readers come up with as the PlayStation 4 enters the wild on Friday.

  • So ready for Ps4 and twitch capabilities.

For sure I'm getting the camera now...

  • I would hope it would be that way, because it only makes sense for it to be so.

  • I guess I'll be creating a Twitch channel.

  • I still wish they had included that camera, since they are providing all these great incentives.
  • OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

  • I am sorry but I don't get the attraction. I mean I want to play a game not watch someone else play a game (except maybe some cool little vids like with the crazy stuff on BF4). And I just don't see sharing gaming video's on the internet as a must do.
  • Who here is getting a PS4 on launch day. Add me if you are please could use some friends on the console.
  • Things that need to be known: 1) Adjusting the bitrate and quality settings to match your internet connection. Is it automatic, or can you do it manually through the PS4 UI? 2) Okay, so we can see the chat on the right side of the screen. What if we wanted to type something back to them through the PS4? o_o
  • good move going to twitch

  • I'm getting a camera at launch as this is my most anticipated feature.

  • I already got my PS camera, I got that along with KZ SF this past weekend. I'm really looking forward to the video streaming capabilities of the PS4, something I never really tried before.
  • I wonder if I can use Xsplit simultaneously for a camera instead and to use Wsplit too.
  • Too bad Twitch servers are the worst, only to become worse when the PS4 (and next week, Xbox One) releases. Love Twitch, hate how the money they earn goes elsewhere.
  • So now GI's editors have almost no excuse now for someone to see what's actually going on in the chat besides messages from twenty minutes back?

  • I am beginning to consider purchasing a PS camera.

  • Any chance we'll be able to use a phone/tablet/PSvita second screen for Twitch chat monitoring and whatnot?

  • It's about to become even more difficult than it already is to get discovered on Twitch.

  • Honestly, I'm not interested in streaming any games, much like PlayStation Home I will not be using this. what a waste.
  • definately a smart move having chat on it ^^
