Ooseravelli review: Jr NTR tries his hand at humour

Genre:
Comedy | Romance | Action
Directed by:
Surender Reddy
Movie Cast:
Jr NTR, Tammanah, Prakash Raj, Payal Ghosh, Rehman, Tanikella Bharani

It seems that T-town superstars are on a mission to tone down their 'angry young man' image and grab attention with comic one-liners and antics.

After Mahesh Babu in Dhookudu, it is Jr NTR’s turn to display his lighter side by trying to liven up the proceedings in Ooseravelli. But the plot could make all his efforts go in vain.

A street-smart goon, played by Jr NTR, goes on a killing spree terminating ruthless people in an effort to fulfil a promise he made to a hapless girl played by Tammanah. Instead of making a regular vigilante movie, director Surender Reddy blends romance with humour to lessen the gory part of this entertainer, but once the “secret” behind the killings is revealed, the film loses its sheen.

The reason for Jr NTR to take up the assignment of wiping out mafia dons, politicians and top cops — family of Tammanah (not even his lover at that point) being mowed down — makes the story look contrived and inspired from the 2009 flick Vengeance. Neither is it possible to overlook its similarities with the director’s previous hit Kick.

Trying to place Jr NTR in some vague comic situations, is taking gambling to the next level. To justify the title Ooseravalli (chame-leon), the director tries to drive home the point that his protagonist is a “complex guy” whereas in reality, he just confuses people.

Barring a few fun moments of Jayaprakash Reddy and gang, the snail-paced screenplay and two dull numbers, leave a lot to be desired.
Jr NTR falls in love with a pretty girl (Tammanah) in Kashmir and his feelings for her brings him to her door-step in Hyderabad.

Although, she introduces him to her fiancé (Rakesh) he remains close to her as a friend. Meanwhile, he keeps track of evil doers and finally eliminates Prakash Raj’s brother. He also exposes the evil intentions of Tammanah’s fiancé and gradually gets closer to her.

However, Tammanah gets a shock of her life, when she sees him killing a top cop leading to their break up.
Jr NTR breaks away from his fiery image and tries to come across as a prankster, while Tammanah looks gorgeous.

However, she does not do justice to the role of a girl with amnesia. Prakash Raj is probably being typecast as an ‘overseas don’t too often leading to a slump in his performance. Less said about Murali Sharma and Tanikella Bhrani and others the better.
