APS's Bob Park elected a CSICOP fellow

Physicist, educator, and writer Robert Park has been elected a Fellow of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP), publisher of the SKEPTICAL INQUIRER.

Park is professor of physics and former chairman of the Department of Physics at the University of Maryland and a long-time director of the Washington office of the American Physical Society, where he writes the electronic column "What's New." The widely read weekly column tracks and opines on current meanderings of Washington science and medical policy happenings, including frequent excesses or interactions involving alternative medicine, supposed energy generators that violate the laws of physics, and other fringe-science activities.

Park has even coined a word encompassing pathological science, junk science, pseudoscience, and fraudulent science--"voodoo science." That provided the title of his book on the subject, Voodoo Science: The Road from Foolishness to Fraud, published by Oxford University Press in 2000.
