Navy One Retired

Navy One Retired The S-3B Viking that was the first Navy aircraft to carry the Navy One radio callsign was retired to the National Museum of Naval Aviation at NAS Pensacola, Florida, in July. The VS-35 aircraft was used to fly President George W. Bush to the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) on 1 May when he declared an end to the major fighting in Iraq. Capt. James P. Kelly, commander, Sea Control Wing, US Pacific Fleet, and Cmdr. Gary M. Wilson, VS-35’s current executive officer, flew the aircraft to Pensacola. The S-3B joins the museum’s 148-aircraft and spacecraft collection. The aircraft will remain as the president flew it.
