Team USA won five medals at Tallinn Trophy with at least one podium finish in each discipline at the senior level in Tallinn, Estonia, this week.
Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko picked up their first senior international gold to kick off the week. The Michigan-based team came from second in the rhythm dance with 69.58 points to win both the free dance with 110.64 points for their performance to music by Tokio Myers and the event overall. They earned all positive Grades of Execution in both segments and set new personal bests across the board, including their total score of 180.22.
Russia's Anastasia Skoptcova and Kirill Aleshin took silver with Poland's Natalia Kaliszek and Maksym Spodyriev in third.
In the ladies field,
Ting Cui captured her first senior international medal with a second-place finish and 199.79 points. The 2018 U.S. junior bronze medalist, who trains in Colorado Springs, Colorado, impressed with a solid triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination early in her short program and three triple jumps receiving a bonus in her free skate. She executed all Level 4 elements in both programs, including six spins and both step sequences, en route to the silver medal.
Karen Chen was ninth after the short program with 52.93 points and withdrew from the free skate due to injury.
Serafima Sakhanovich of Russia won the event, and Finland's Viveca Lindfors came in third.
Olympian
Vincent Zhou won the silver medal in the men's competition with a total score of 234.25. Third after the short program, he delivered the second-best free skate in the field to finish second. Zhou completed five Level 4 spins throughout the competition and successfully received a bonus for three jumping passes, including a three-jump combination, in the free skate.
Joining him on the podium were Russians Maxim Kovtun and Anton Shulepov in first and third, respectively.
Both pairs teams representing the United States finished on the podium. Fresh off winning their first Grand Prix medal at Internationaux de France last week,
Tarah Kayne and Danny O'Shea won the free skate with 120.41 points to come back from a fourth-place short program to win their second consecutive international silver medal. The team received a Level 4 on five of six elements in their
Swan Lake free skate, highlighted by three Level 4 lifts.
Jessica Calalang and Brian Johnson clinched their first medal in just their second competition together after teaming up this spring. They finished third with 172.31 points.
Representing Austria, Miriam Ziegler and Severin Kiefer took the top spot on the podium.
