SAN FRANCISCO – The San Diego Padres selected senior right-hander Adam Cimber in the ninth round (268 overall pick) of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft.

Cimber finished the 2013 season with a 6-3 record to go along with a 3.74 ERA and a school-record nine saves. He fanned 59 batters in 57 innings of work and held opponents to a .270 batting average. He led the West Coast Conference in appearances (34) and relief appearances (33) while his save total ranked second among conference closers.

A native of Puyallup, Wash., Cimber spent his first three collegiate seasons at the University of Washington, where he compiled a 9-8 record to go along with a 4.15 ERA and nine saves in 73 appearances, including four starts, for the Huskies from 2010-12.

Cimber joins pitcher Alex Balog, who was selected Thursday by the Colorado Rockies in the competitive balance “b” round with the 70th overall pick, as players who have been drafted off of the 2013 team.

The 2013 First-Year Player Draft will continue on Saturday with Rounds 11-40 and will be streamed live on MLB.com starting at 10:00 a.m. PT.
