A survey was conducted in the field over a period from June to December, 1981, and revealed that infection withSarcoptes scabiei var. suiswas prevalent among swine. Cutaneous changes were distinct with severe pruritus. There was a tendency that the worse the general condition of swine, the larger the number of parasites infecting and the more remarkable the clinical manifestation of the swine.
A low toxic organophosphorus scabicide, KWA-905, was soluble in water and permeable to skin. It was effective enough to cure lesions, increase the body weight of fattening hogs, and accelerate the shipment of hogs to the market.
