I.one who does business by wholesale, a wholesale dealer, a banker, a factor (cf.: “institor, mercator): improbus negotiator,” Cic. Q. Fr. 1, 1, 2, § 7: “mercator an negotiator,” Cic. Verr. 2, 2, 77, § 188; id. Planc. 26, 64.—
